Visit of HH Karmapa 2005

The Centre of Buddhist Studies and Meditation Karmapa Mikyö Dorje received the first visit of H.H. the XVII Gyalwa Karmapa Trinlay Thaye Dorje in June 2004. On that occasion H.H. Karmapa announced that in the future, the Centre would be a place of reference for the development and expansion of the Dharma. His words confirmed what Bodhisattva Lama Jesús (Jesús Javier Juanotena) had announced before leaving his body. |
A year has passed since then, a year in which the benefits of H.H. Karmapa's visit have been clearly seen in the expansion of the Centre's activity and the development of its projects. These projects had been announced to his disciples by Bodhisattva Lama Jesús during the years of his intense activity after founding the centre. |
H.H. Karmapa's second visit, as well as being an immensely joyful event, will be a great stimulus for the practice, devotion and development of the Centre's activity. It is also a recognition of the service of the lamas who have made the transmission of the teaching and continuity of the practice in this Centre possible, especially Venerable Lama Tonsang and Venerable Lama Chogdup Dorje, on whose unconditional help we have been able to count at all times. |

TEACHING ON BODHICHITTA: COMPASSION AND WISDOM
The public ceremonies, which were held in the "Tres Reyes" Hotel, Pamplona, began on 10th September at five o'clock with a teaching on "Bodhichitta, Compassion and Wisdom". His Holiness described the different types of compassion that we are able to experience as we go more deeply into the practice. The first level is a consequence of the natural love that we all feel towards the people who are close to us. In a second stage, this feeling grows to encompass all sentient beings until we reach the third stage in which Bodhichitta, transcending dualism, is expressed as our natural awakened state.

MILAREPA EMPOWERMENT
On Sunday 11th at five o'clock, the people who wished to do so had the opportunity to take refuge (the entrance door to Buddhism) from His Holiness. After reminding us that the suffering we experience as human beings is always more the consequence of internal causes than of external circumstances, His Holiness gave us the Milarepa Initiation (Milarepa was one of the great masters of the Tibetan Buddhist Kagyupa Tradition).

The approximately 500 people from all over Spain and Europe who attended the ceremonies had the opportunity to receive the powerful impact produced by a teaching which has been passed down from master to disciple for more than two thousand five hundred years, transmitted by a totally awakened being, as is His Holiness Karmapa. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to His Holiness as well as to the lamas who made it possible that this exceptional event could take place.
